Biography

It is a first Badminton and first 5* for British rider Tom Woodward (23) who is based near Hartpury in Gloucestershire. Last year with Low Moor Lucky Tom placed 13^th at Blenheim 4*L. Tom will be one of the youngest riders in the field this year (Irelands Jennifer Kuehnle is a few months younger).

Lucky was Tom’s first horse off ponies and the pair has gone up the levels together, from BE100 to 4*. In 2021 Tom won his first International on Lucky at Cornbury House YR 3* and the combination won the 3* at Somerford Park in 2022. He has also enjoyed success with the younger Jaeger Master with wins at 2 & 3 star*. He has a small string of talented horses at his yard in Gloucestershire with two home produced horses imminently stepping up to 3*.

Tom enjoys watching and playing all sports, particularly rugby, cricket and football having previously played lots of rugby and cricket throughout school years. He supports Manchester united. He enjoys socialising with friends.

Low Moor Lucky is a British-bred 18-year-old gelding. Bred by Richard Dennis in North Yorkshire he is by Luidam out of a mare of unknown breeding. He was acquired seven-years ago aged from the breeder.  The horse was nicknamed Lucky as he was given ‘one last chance’ to be backed at the age of nine-years-old after being ‘very, very naughty to ride away’. Lucky completed his first event aged 11. Tom is grateful to have had six horses from Lucky’s breeder including two feral young horses who are now both eventing successfully with Tom and their new owners.
