Biography

It will be a Badminton debut for German rider Jerome Robine (27) who is based at Warendorf. With Badminton entry Black Ice Jerome placed 7th at the 2023 European Championships in France and last year the combination was 3rd in the 4*L at Blenheim. In 2023 they placed 10th in the 5* at Luhmuhlen.

Jerôme comes from a family of riders and breeders – his father competed to 4* – based in Darmstadt where they have their own stable and breeding yard. Jerome began competing in show jumping competition at the age of 11, and his first cross-country competition a year later. In 2013, he competed for the first time at the German Junior Championships, and in 2014, finished second in the Preis der Besten (Prize of the Best). He is a former German and Junior team rider. In 2014 with the homebred Quaddelou he won individual bronze and team silver at the Junior European championships held at Bishop Burton and the pair was a member of the German Junior squad the following year.  In 2017 they won Young Rider team gold in Millstreet.

In 2017, he enrolled at the Bundeswehr Sports School in Warendorf as a sports soldier and was accepted into the eventing group in 2018.

In 2021 he participated in his first German senior championships in Luhmühlen. A year later, he almost made it onto the podium. A knockdown thwarted a potential silver medal, and Jérôme Robiné and Black Ice finished fourth in the German Championship standings. In both years – 2021 and 2022 – he won the overall ranking in the U25 Eventing Award.

In 2023, Jérôme Robiné decided not to compete in the German Championships but instead with Irish horse, Black Ice, finished the Luhmuhlen 5* as the best German rider, placing tenth. He was then nominated for the European Championships in Le Pin-au-Haras, where, as a newcomer, he took 7th place in the individual rankings.

He continues to live and train in Warendorf and trains with former German team rider Peter Thomsen.

Black Ice is a 15-year-old Irish Sport Horse registered gelding. Bred by Judith McClelland He is by Vechta (the former showjumper ridden by William Funnell) out of a mare by Touchdown (sire of former Badminton winner Paulank Brockagh). Black Ice was formerly produced by Neil Morrison, Catherine Robinson then spent two seasons with Mexican rider Anibal Garrido before being acquired by Jerome in 2020.
