Biography

Austrian amateur and Olympic rider Dr Harald Ambros (45) came to Badminton in 2007 – his first and last visit – gaining a completion with Miss Ferrari (18th). He returns with Vitorio du Montet with who he contested the 2024 Olympic Games. It is a second visit also for Vitorio who competed here in 2022 with leading French rider Maxine Livio – albeit did not complete. In 2021 the French combination was 5th in the 5* at Pau.

Since 2003 Harald has represented Austria in a total of 12 Olympic Games, World and European championships. He first represented Austria in 2001 at the Young Rider Championships winning individual gold.

Harald is based near Linz in Upper Austria where he works as a dentist.

Harald is married to Susanne and the couple has two children aged 11 & 8 years old.

Vitorio du Montet is a 16-year-old Selle Francais gelding. He is by Lando out of a mare by Arpege Pierreville. He was originally ridden by French team rider Maxine Livio who produced him to 5* and was 5th at Pau in 2021. Harald took the ride in 2023 albeit Vitiorio had three other riders in the intervening two years and Harald acquired him from Czech rider Eliska Opravilova. Vitorio is described by Harald as a ‘special and sensitive character’.
