Biography
Irish rider Daragh Byrne (28) made his Badminton debut with Kilcannon Ramiro last year – but did not complete. Later in the year they completed Pau – a first 5* completion for rider and horse.
Daragh who is based in Co Meath is a full time rider and producer. He was a former member of the Irish Young rider team (2017). In 2022 with Badminton entry Kilcannon Ramiro he recorded his first international win topping the 4*L at Ballindenisk.
Daragh’s father James has been involved with horses all his life and breeds a couple every year, his sister Lelia competes up to 3*. Daragh trains with Michael McNally and off horses enjoys Gaelic football and swimming.
Kilcannon Ramiro is an Irish-bred, Irish Sport Horse registered 12-year-old gelding. Bred by Mary Bolger at the Kilcannon Stud he is by Ramiro B out of a mare by Kildalton King. He was acquired by Daragh’s father (and owner) James as an unbroken three-year-old from the breeder at Goresbridge sales and has been produced to 5* level by Daragh. In 2022 the combination won the 4*L in Ballindenisk and in 2024 completed their first 5* at Pau. Daragh says; ‘He has been special from day one. He has a mind of his own and is very independent – he likes to graze on his own in he paddock’.
