Biography
It is a third visit to Badminton for Olympic Irish rider Susie Berry (29) who made a successful debut in 2022 (17th, John the Bull). In 2024 with Badminton entry Clever Trick she completed Lexington 5* and the combination represented Ireland at the 2023 European championships and were members of the fourth placed Irish team. Last year she competed at her first Olympic Games in Paris completing with Wellfields Lincoln (30th).
Susie is based near Kettering in Northamptonshire where she runs her own yard.
In 2014 she relocated from home in Co Down to work for and train with Piggy French before setting up on her own in 2020, just 20 minutes away from her mentor.
Susie grew up surrounded by horses – national hunt mares and foals – and rode from an early age. From 2012 – 2017 she represented Ireland in six European Championships at Pony, Junior and Young Rider level winning team gold and team bronze at junior level. In 2019 and 2020 she competed at the World Young Horse Championships in Le Lions. In 2019 she earned her first senior cap competing as a member of the Irish team at the CHIO in Aachen and in 2024 represented Ireland at her first Olympic Games.

Clever Trick is 13-year-old three-quarter bred, Irish Sport Horse registered mare. Bred by Vincent Cousins of Kilcandra Stud, she is by the thoroughbred Financial Reward out of Bonnie Dolly by the thoroughbred Bonnie Prince. She was acquired in Ireland from her former rider Alex Kennedy five-years ago. Her breeder also bred Susie’s 4* ride Kilcandra Capitol. Clever Trick’s dam Bonny Dollie is also the dam of Michael Jung’s 4* winner Kilcandra Ocean Power.
