Biography
British rider Alexander Whewall (36) competed at Badminton in 2023 but did not complete and will be looking for his first completion with the mare Ellfield Voyager. Last October the combination was 29th in the 4*L at Boekelo.
Alexander, who is based near Easton in Gordano near Bristol, completed his first 5* at Pau in 2017 with former ride Chakris Star.
Alex started riding aged 12 after being bitten by the bug on his first riding lesson at the local riding school and acquired his first pony aged 14. In 2016, with Chakiris Star Alex was the winner of the National Intermediate championships, gained 10 top 20 placings in international classes and was awarded the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap scholarship.

Ellfield Voyager is a 15-year-old British-bred SHB(GB) registered mare. Bred less than 10 miles away from Badminton by owner Dr Sheila Rowe he is by Grafenstolz (also the sire of Lordships Graffalo, Grafenacht and Church’Ille) out of Ellfield April Joy by Grannex. April Joy was formerly competed to 3* by Jay Halim. The Ellfield Dikster, a half-sister to Ellfield Voyager is currently competing with Alicia Hawker. Voyager has been produced by Alexander since a five-year-old and is described by Alexander as ‘a real hothead and not very patient’.
