Biography
Will Faudree
American rider Will Faudree (41) last came to Badminton in 2005 (22nd Antigua). Last year with Badminton entry Mama’s Mighty Magic he completed both Lexington and Elkton 5* events. Will is based in Hoffman, North Carolina where he runs his own competition and training yard.
Growing up on a cattle ranch in west Texas, horses were always a major part of his life and Will fell in love with eventing aged seven watching the 1988 Olympic Games. After graduating from high school in 2001, he was a member of the North American Youth Championships gold medal-winning team, riding the ex-racehorse The Big Easy. He became a working student for Olympian Phillip Dutton and purchased Antigua, a horse that took him to the top of the sport. The pair was a part of the US Pan American Games team in 2003, winning a team gold medal. After relocating to Southern Pines, NC in 2004, they were travelling reserves for the 2004 Olympic Games and in 2006 represented team US at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen.
He was short-listed for the 2012 London Olympic Games and 2010 World Equestrian Games. Will currently trains with Robert Costello and takes dressage lessons with Sandy Phillips and John Zopatti. He is a member of the US training squad.
Will has come through several major life events. In 1999 after a serious fall, he sustained serious concussion and a life-threatening brain injury. He recovered after months of intensive therapy and in 2002 was the US Eventing Association Young Rider of the Year. After returning home from the 2004 OG he discovered that a lightning strike had destroyed his barn and the majority of his personal property (without injury to horse or human). He rented a farm from neighbours and went on to represent the US as a 2006 team member at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen. In 2015 he suffered two broken vertebrae in his neck after a fall at the Five Points Horse Trials (NC) undergoing surgery as a result.
