Biography
Irish rider Susie Berry (27) made a successful debut here last year when 17th with John the Bull. It will be a first Badminton for this year’s entry Ringwood LB. After a successful ’22 season the pair started at Burghley 5* but did not complete.
Susie is based near Kettering in Northamptonshire where she runs her own yard. In 2014 she relocated from home in Co Down to work for and train with Piggy French before setting up on her own in 2020, just 20 minutes away from her mentor.
Susie grew up surrounded by horses – national hunt mares and foals – and rode from an early age. From 2012 – 2017 she represented Ireland in six European Championships at Pony, Junior and Young Rider level winning team gold and team bronze at junior level. In 2019 and 2020 she competed at the World Young Horse Championships in Le Lions. In 2019 she earned her first senior cap competing as aa member of the Irish team at the CHIO in Aachen.
Susie trains with Dag Albert.
Ringwood Lb (aka Albie) is a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse registered gelding. Bred by Catriona Mulkere he is by the international grand prix jumper Iroko (by Pilot) out of a mare by Master Imp. He was initially produced by Georgia Bale for a season then went to Jonty Evans with who he competed in the World 7-year-old Championships at Le Lions and completed Tattersalls CIC3*. Susie gained the ride in 2018 after Jonty’s fall. Albie is described as enormous although the Lb in his name stands for Little bit as he was a very small young horse. How owners also own Ringwood’s half-sister by Luidam.
