Biography
French rider Gireg Le Coz (34) made a successful debut here last year with Aisprit de la Loge (18th) his entry this year also.
Gireg and his horses are based in the stables of Parc Departmental on the Isle de Briand in Le Lions D’Angers – home of the World Young Horse Championships. He currently has a stable of 12 horses.
Gireg was born a large horse-loving family based in the north-western region of Morbihan in Brittany. He took his first steps on a pony at the riding centre of Etrier Vannetais and aged 10 decided to concentrate on eventing competing in several pony championships, winning a medal in 2000. In 2008 after finishing his education he went to Saumur to take his instructors exams and was a member of the young rider squad. He enjoyed success with his mare Logann de Rohis who took him to 5* level. The pair was 8th in the U25 at Bramham in 2013 during which time he was based in the UK enjoying time with Christopher Burton, Sam Griffiths and William Fox-Pitt. On his return he set up on his own in his native Morbihan then in 2020 moved to Le Lions.
Aisprit de la Loge is a 13-year-old French-bred Selle Francais. Bred by Didier Debonnet at Haras de la Loge, he is by Quppydam des Horts out of Image de la Loge by Dollar du Murier. She is also the dam of 4* horse Tresor de la Loge. He was acquired by his owners as a 4-year-old for Gireg as an aspiring top level horse after they had been to watch the WEG 2014 in Caen. He has been produced through the levels by Gireg. He is described by Gireg as ‘a very sensitive and special horse and the best horse I have ridden so far’.
