Biography
British rider Nicky Rocoroni (40) is a professional rider based in Gowran, Co Kilkenny having relocated to Ireland from Cirencester at the beginning of 2018. Nicky who runs her own yard and NBR Eventing last competed at Badminton in 2017. With Badminton entry Watts Burn she was 12th at Pau in 2018.
Nicky rode as a child and was a keen member of the Pony Club. She represented Scotland at Junior level and Great Britain at Young Rider level on home produced horses, winning individual European bronze in 1998 in Waregem and team silver in 1999 with Malachy Stone. In 2002 she won her first three-day, the two-star at Weston Park and in 2003 made her debut at Badminton (Coots Hill) but had to withdraw after the dressage.
Nicky then began producing horses as a career – Badminton contender Arctic Soul is among those started by Nicky. Her own horse Trig Point became her next four-star horse, with who she also made her British Nations Cup team debut. In 2010, ’12 &’13 she was leading Scottish rider. With Stonedge Edge she completed Pau in 2017 and last year with Watts Burn represented Team GB at Nations Cup in Poland, Ireland and America.
Nicky comes from a sporting family. Her mother Janey was the MFH of the Jed Forest Hunt and sister Kate evented to advanced and point-to-pointed, Uncle David captained Scotland to win the rugby grand slam in 1990.
Nicky trains with Christopher Bartle. Outside of eventing she enjoys hunting, skiing, sailing and all things that ‘spike the adrenalin’. She has sky-dived, absailed, para-glided, sea kayaked and ran three tough mudders and is now keen to try rock climbing.
Watts Burn (aka #Sir Wattles) is a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. He is by the thoroughbred Zero Watt (sire of eventers The Biz, Zero Flight, Woodside Alcatraz) out of a mare by the ISH Knightly Park (by Enniskeane Prince). He was sourced by Nicky in Ireland as a just broken four-year-old through Shaun and Sally Parkyn and has been produced by Nicky. The following year he was third in the five-year-old BYEH final. With Nicky he has represented Team GB in Nations Cup events in Poland Ireland and the USA. Last year the pair completed Pau in 12th place.
