Biography
New Zealand rider Megan Heath (39) who is based near Marlborough last competed at Badminton in 2014. She moved to the UK in 2005 to further her career in banking. Megan formerly kept a jumping horse with fellow Kiwi Grant Wilson in Belgium, commuting at weekends to compete for fun, but temporarily gave up riding altogether eight years ago due to pressure of work. She started eventing six years ago and in 2012 with St Daniel she was 15th at Lumuhlen four-star and was awarded the HSBC training bursary for the highest placed four-star debut. In 2013 the pair completed their first Badminton.
Megan trains with Annabel Scrimgeour. Outside of eventing she enjoys London, travel and renovating houses.
St Daniel, owned by the rider, is a 15-year-old German-bred Hanoverian gelding. He is by the British-bred thoroughbred sire Star Regent, who stood in Germany and out of the Hanoverian mare Donnice, by Der Clou. St Daniel is a full brother to Shamwari, 20th at the 2012 Olympic Games and 10th at the 2013 Europeans with Ludwig Svennerstal and now with American rider Boyd Martin (the pair was 7th at the 2014 WEG). Star Regent is also the dam-sire of former German team horse Butts Leon. St Daniel was acquired from German Olympic gold medallist Peter Thomsen in 2010.
