Biography
French rider Jean Teulere (63) who is based near Saumur, has the honour of being the oldest competitor this year. He returned to Badminton last year finishing in 17th place (Matelot du Grand Val) – his last previous visit was 2011. Despite having competed at top level for over 25 years this former World Champion (Jerez, 2002) and French team veteran is an infrequent competitor in the UK.
Jean began riding aged 14. He joined the National riding school in 1981 and established his own yard nearby. He has represented France at four Olympic Games and was a member of the French Olympic gold medal team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens where he finished fourth individually. With Badminton entry Matelot du Grand Val, he was a member of the French team for the 2014 WEG in France and was the flag bearer for the France at the opening ceremony. In 2004 he was named Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
He trains with Thierry Touzaint.
He has two children with partner Melique Laure; Lolo (9) and Pierre (14).
Matelot du Grand Val owned by SARL Esoir & rider, is a 17-year-old Selle Francais gelding. He is by Eveil de la Cour a son of the Thoroughbred Kings Road. He is out of Marine who is by the Thoroughbred African Joy. Marine is also the dam of four-star eventer Ilot du Grand Val who was 41st at Badminton in 2009 ridden by Manon Fournier.
