Biography
British rider Emily Gilruth (40), is based near Malpas in Cheshire, where she runs her own yard. Last year she started at her first Badminton (Topwood Beau) but had to withdraw before the final showjumping.
Emily previously competed at four-star with Ashdale Cruise Master and completed Burghley with him in 2009 – she contested Burghley 2015 with Topwood Beau but retired cross country.
Emily is trained by Gill Milner (showjumping) and fellow event rider Ruth Edge.
Emily is married to Tom who runs Topwood Security Shredding Ltd and the couple has two daughters Scarlett (7) and Imogen (5). She is a parent governor at her local primary school and enjoys hunting with the Wynnstay and skiing.
Topwood Beau owned by the rider, is a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. He is by the thoroughbred Beau Royale a son of Bohemond. His dam Cul Na Breathar, by Colin Diamond, is also the dam of four-star horse One Two Many and advanced horse Dassett Saratoga. He was sent to Emily as a three-year-old from Cavan sales, to back and ride away and she bought him as a four-year-old to produce and sell but never did and has since brought him through the levels. Last year he jumped clear at Badminton but pulled a shoe and had to be withdrawn.
