Biography
Alice Naber-Lozeman (45) of the Netherlands completed Badminton last year with Harry Belafonte – her entry this year also. With ACSI Peter Parker she was a member of the Dutch team for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games (32nd).
Alice is based near Biddinghuizen in the province of Flevoland, 40k East of Zwolle, where, with her husband Gert, she runs a training centre and Eventing School.
Alice was born on a farm and was put on a horse before she could walk. Her father Gerrit Lozeman competed in European and World Championships (’79-’87).
In 1987 with her first horse, Why Not, she competed in the Junior European Championships. She has also represented The Netherlands at senior level in three European Championships (1999, 2001 & 2003) and was Dutch champion in 1996, 2000, 2004 & 2008. In 2014 she was named sportswoman of the year in the municipality of Dronten.
She is married to Gert Naber who has also represented the Netherlands in eventing and the couple both competed at the 2003 European Championships in Punchestown. Gert is now a TD in the sport. The couple has two daughters; Leida (12) & Jantien (9) who came to Badminton last year and loved it especially playing football behind the village hall.
ACSI Harry Belafonte owned by Ramon & Sabine Van Reine, is a 14-year-old German-bred gelding. He is by the leading thoroughbred sire Heraldik (sire of Happy Times, Butts Abraxxas, Avedon and Leon, Halunke, Karascada M and the damsire of Olympic champion Sam). Harry Belafonte is out of a mare by the Dutch-bred Zamiro a son of Ramiro. Harry came to Alice in 2011, acquired from German rider Bernd Backhaus, the son of the breeder, who started him at two-star level. Bernd evented his dam Zamira and competed his grand dam (Weinkonigin) in showjumping. Weinkonigen is the dam of Weinkonig 3 (by Heraldik) who was formerly competed by Kathryn Robinson and Giovanni Ugolotti.
